Frequently asked questions

Why is the .epi format and browser verifier free?

The .epi format is an open standard — like PDF or HTTP. Free distribution means every .epi file advertises EPI. Every browser becomes a verifier. The format spreads through use, not through pricing. Paid tiers add hosted infrastructure on top of the already-adopted free product.

What happens if I exceed 1,000 verifications on the Team plan?

You will not be cut off. We will notify you and suggest upgrading to Compliance. The limit is soft — we want you to upgrade because you are getting value, not because we shut you down.

Do I need the hosted portal to verify .epi files?

No. Every .epi file embeds its own browser verifier. Drop it into any browser and it verifies itself — zero servers, zero accounts, zero cost. The hosted portal adds batch verification, compliance reports, and SCITT anchoring for teams that need those at scale.

Can I switch plans?

Yes. Upgrade or downgrade anytime. Your evidence history and API keys remain intact.

How does SCITT anchoring work?

When you verify through the hosted portal, the evidence hash is registered in a SCITT transparency ledger with a Merkle inclusion proof. This provides cryptographic proof that the evidence existed at a specific point in time — critical for regulatory audits with multi-year retention requirements.

What compliance frameworks do you support?

AIUC-1 (6 trust domains), EU AI Act Article 12, NIST AI RMF, ISO 42001, and SOC 2. Custom framework mapping is available on the Enterprise plan. Every verification report includes AIUC-1 domain mapping by default.
